Sky Box Spring Clean

Summer is here but it’s never too late to give your SKY TV a really good Spring Clean!

We’re all guilty of recording shows we fancy watching on a whim and yet don’t have time to get around to later, so at Sat Insure we’ve put together a countdown of the Top 5 helpful tips and tricks you can use to make sure your Sky Box is in great working order!

We’re going to begin with the Planner Rebuild for SKY+ and SKY+ HD as this is the fastest way to fix minor issues with the Sky Box HDD (or Hard Drive).

One thing that people often underestimate is the amount their Sky picture can be affected by rain itself. This is due to the cloud/rain drops literally absorbing the microwave radio frequency (RF) from the satellite itself and decreasing the signal strength.

If your recordings fail or you get an error message which says “Sky+ playback and recording unavailable”, more often than not it will be a minor issue with the HDD (hard drive) which can be easily resolved by doing a “planner rebuild”.

This reorganises the files and folders on the hard drive and makes it run smoother: -

  1. Press ‘Services’ on the remote.
  2. Press ‘4’ (System setup) Press ‘0’ then ‘1’ then select (This is the hidden menu)
  3. Press ‘7’ for SKY+ Planner Rebuild. (A message should appear saying ‘this will take a few minutes to complete’.)
  4. Wait 5 minutes and then record a programme for 30 minutes to see if it has worked.

  1. Press ‘Services’ on the remote.
  2. Press ‘right arrow’ to get to settings.
  3. Press ‘down arrow’ to highlight ‘picture’ in yellow.
  4. Press ‘0’ then ‘1’ then select. (This is a hidden menu).
  5. Scroll with ‘left arrow’ to the ‘Planner Rebuild’ tab and press select. (A message should appear saying ‘this will take a few minutes to complete’.)
  6. Wait 5 mins and then record a programme for 30 mins to see if it has worked.
